Inova introduces APIX3 video transmission system

Inova semiconductor has introduced APIX3, the latest version of APIX multi-channel SerDes (serializer/debonker) technology for vehicle video and data transmission.

Developed by Inova semiconductor, APIX (automotive pixel link) is a multichannel technology for high-resolution onboard video applications. The new APIX3 version delivers speeds of up to 6Gbps via a single twisted pair (STP) and 12Gbps via a four-twisted pair (QTP), four times the speed of the previous APIX2 version. This means that APIX3 can implement video with hd and uhd display.

APIX3 can reduce cable costs for automakers, oems, and tier 1 suppliers by supporting different cable media -- STP, QTP, and coaxial. It provides scalable bandwidth, which means that the technology can be used for entry-level to high-end systems.

APIX3 offers a number of other features that are not available on board video technology. First, the system is capable of multi-video channel transmission through a single connection, thus supporting advanced cockpit structures. It also supports 100 Mbit Ethernet and other commonly used serial interface protocols. Finally, APIX3 provides advanced diagnostic capabilities, including cable monitoring for cable deterioration prevention detection.

The first apix3-based Inova products are under development and are being sampled from key customers, with general sampling expected in the third quarter of 2016. An APIX3 test chip has been produced for Inova evaluation.

APIX3 IP is now offering licenses, the first of which is under negotiation and is expected to be completed by the end of 2015. Inova is also working with partners to build a complete ecosystem of supporting cables and connectors.

The new APIX3 technology is backward compatible with APIX2. It provides complete dual communication channels and dynamic equalizers for automatic matching with transmission lines independently, thus enabling plug and play interconnection. It also compensates for cable aging and temperature. APIX3 supports safety related (ISO26262) applications and meets vehicle electromagnetic interference (EMI) and robustness requirements.
